Walsh Student Awarded

The significant contributions of an Archbishop Walsh High School junior to a PowerPoint for the McKean County Fair Association were instrumental in that entry's second place finish in the judging at the annual convention of the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs in Hershey during January 19-20.

Eric Green, 16, used his ideas for the animation for the PowerPoint, "Bushels of Fun," that showed the various activities at the 2007 county fair at the fairgrounds in East Smethport during August 12-19.

Lois Kreitzer-Housler, an earth science teacher at Walsh and a department superintend of the fair, headed the PowerPoint Committee. She resides near Mt. Jewett, Pa., and is a parishioner and choir member of St. Joseph Church in Mt. Jewett. "Eric is a very talented student," Kreitzer-Housler said. His animations of a donkey, flying pigs, bushels of apples, clover growing out of a pot, fireworks and a flashing TV screen reflect his computer skills, which were keys to our entry bringing home a red ribbon. He also helped with the photos by Anita Johnson of Kane, Shelly Brugh of Eldred, Don Keneske of Kane and Fran De Lancey of Smethport and transitions."

According to Kreitzer-Housler, Eric spent many hours over approximately two months on the project, devoting much time in study halls after he completed his scholastic assignments.
