Walsh Academics

The Archbishop Walsh curriculum satisfies all of the New York State Regents standards. Required (core) subjects include the following:

Throughout the years, Archbishop Walsh has had a higher SAT score among students when compared to the nation’s average. This has led to student success with college acceptance. Approximately 95% of graduating seniors continue their education beyond high school.

 

The International Baccalaureate (IB)
The new Archbishop Walsh Academy in Olean is asking students to think differently about a challenging and inspiring curriculum that gives students a distinct advantage in life. Walsh is pursuing the International Baccalaureate – or IB – curriculum -- a specialized program of study that develops inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people. Walsh Academy will be one of more than 2,700 schools worldwide offering this rigorous program of study, and the only one of its kind in New York’s Southern Tier.

TUITION
Tuition for the 2009-2010 school year is $4,150, which includes science, Internet access, art program fees, and the use of course textbooks.

 

Archbishop Walsh has a strong commitment to quality Catholic education. As such, we will never allow money to be a determining factor in admission. With the help of local parishes, foundations, the Diocese of Buffalo, and many local businesses, we are able to offer generous financial aid packages, work-study, and scholarship opportunities to make the Walsh experience available to all families.

GIANT STEP PROGRAM
The Giant Step program provides Walsh students who have completed their junior year of high school with an opportunity to enroll in college-level courses. Students who receive permission from their guidance counselor may apply for admission as Giant Step students and take regular St. Bonaventure classes. Admitted students are permitted to take up to six hours per semester and receive transcripts for their work.

GIANT STEP PROGRAM AT ST. BONAVENTURE

BOCES
Junior / senior students have the option of attending various career and technical programs through the Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES. Also, seniors who plan on majoring in a health related field in college are offered an on-site program at Olean General Hospital under the auspices of BOCES.
